INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION
(Lost & Found)

The Investigative Unit is comprised of  other Investigators whose primary responsibility is to investigate all criminal and civil incidents as well as insurance liability incidents that are reported to the Department of Public Safety.

The Unit maintains departmental statistics for all criminal and non-criminal incidents. These figures are reported annually to the Pennsylvania State Police (Uniform Crime Report) and the Federal Department of Education. These statistics are made available to all Students, Staff and Faculty as well as any person who may request a copy.

The Unit is responsible for all lost and found items. Every effort is made to investigate and return all found items to their rightful owner.

One Investigator's primary duties are Crime Prevention, Community Service Officer program, and acts as the liaison to the RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) program. The Investigator, along with the community service officers, conduct crime prevention presentations in the residence halls covering such topics as personal safety, alcohol abuse, and sexual assault. Several times during the school year, presentations are conducted in the Connelly Center for all students, faculty and staff.

Another Investigator is the primary interventionist for all sexual assaults committed on or off campus involving a Villanova University female student. She is responsible for obtaining a statement from the victim and informing the victim of her options: being treated at the hospital, filing a criminal complaint with the Police and/or filing a complaint with Villanova University's Judicial Affairs Officer or not prosecuting criminally or Judicially. This investigator also conducts sexual assault presentations for all the residence halls.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the incumbent is responsible for conducting crime prevention seminars for University faculty, staff and students; conducting crime prevention surveys in order to identify vulnerable areas with regard to safety and security; conducting investigations and follow-up activities into criminal and non-criminal incidents occurring on the University property as directed; assisting in the analysis of statistical crime/incident data pertaining to criminal activity for proper follow-up; assisting in the preparation of Federal and State reporting documentation; drafts correspondence and survey reports regarding investigations and physical security audits; and carries out special assignments/projects as assigned by the Assistant Director.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, the incumbent is responsible for conducting sexual awareness seminars for University faculty, staff and students; conducting investigations involving sexual assaults; providing support and assistance to victims of sexual assaults; conducting investigations and follow-up activities into criminal and non-criminal incidents occurring on the University property as directed; assisting in the coordination of the Department's Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) and crime prevention functions; assisting in the analysis of statistical crime/incident data pertaining to criminal activity for proper follow-up; assisting in the preparation of Federal and State reporting documentation; drafts correspondence and survey reports regarding investigations and physical security audits; and carries out special assignments/projects as assigned by the Assistant Director.
